Summary
House Republicans narrowly passed their budget resolution by a vote of 217-215, a big win for Speaker Mike Johnson with an extremely slim GOP majority.
The measure begins the process to implement Trump’s legislative agenda through reconciliation, requiring only a simple majority to pass, but both the House and Senate must adopt the exact same resolution.
Democrats, fearing massive Medicaid cuts, strongly opposed the resolution and scrambled to get members to the floor, including Rep. Brittany Petterson, on maternity leave, and Rep. Kevin Mullin, who used a walker.
The resolution now heads to the Senate.
House Democratic leaders complained in a message to Democrats that Johnson was trying to “jam” the budget resolution through after assuring them there would be no further votes in the House for the night.
So the fuckers claimed there would be no more votes, waited for some Dems to leave, and then quickly scheduled another vote to try and get it through before the democratic reps could get back? I wish I could say I was surprised but there is no depth to which they can sink that can surprise me now.
It’s unclear to me how that happens. Don’t they officially adjourn? Why are people going home when there’s a government takeover and the day has not officially ended?
Iirc they can call a vote whenever they want until the session is officially put on break. The counter balance is requiring a quorem to vote.
Honestly, I did some looking, and I can’t find anything that lays it out clearly enough for me to be 100%, but I’m pretty sure congress has to officially still be in a legislative day for a vote to happen.

I don’t want to be dramatic, but if this passes we’re fucked and there’s almost no way to come back.
Taxes were cut during Reagan and hardly came back after all those years, Trump came in and cut them even more than Reagan. Once Biden took power taxes were only slightly raised, but nowhere near their pre Trump levels, Trump is trying to lower taxes again.
Our government is not going to be able to function or handle the debt load, there’s just not enough income. It was so obvious that this would happen again, but I guess the people that voted for him don’t mind a shittier government and a larger deficit. Trump is going to leave office with the largest deficit in history, or maybe second to his first run.
We’re at a serious risk of losing the dollar as the reserve currency at this point. If that happens we can say goodbye to this country for good.
I can’t tell if they’re actually following Putins orders or are actually just that dumb.
I can’t tell if they’re actually following Putins orders or are actually just that dumb.
This is the likeliest explanation for every single decision. If it weakens/destroys the US, Trump is doing it, and that is exactly the goal of his godhead.
Fascists only leave power when they die
The only way to end fascism is to end the fascists’ lives.
Bastards.
Watching democracy die in slow motion

How many democrats voted for it?
None. Not only that but one dem who just gave birth came back earlier than expected just to vote against it
Another dem also was in recovery from surgery and went to congress just to vote against it
Some good that did her. Can a few Republicans just fall off a cliff or something?
Like, can every single one fall off a cliff? Onto a bed of rusted syph spikes? And there are fleas?
They came close to blocking it here and the fight isn’t over
There are still more votes on this budget. For instance, the senate and house republican versions are not all the same, so things will have be rectified between those giving another future vote to block it
Republican majorities are small in the house. A couple absent republicans is enough to make things fail. Another no vote or two because of some minor reason is enough to block things
One reason it was rushed through is that Trump keeps pulling Republican reps for other jobs, slicing into their majority. Like the ambassador-to-be they haven’t approved because they needed her vote.

Good.
None. It passed 217-215, with one Republican voting no.
