The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

  • I guarantee that the people who do game theory about coups and nuclear war have thought about a willing or unwilling traitor in power. It’s one of the most confusing things about all this that they haven’t done anything to stop it.

My take is that whatever plans exist (and I agree they must) for this situation were designed to come into play only when a very specific set of criteria had been met, and that because any such plan would necessarily be very extreme, the designers of the plan codified that no matter how bad things got, it would require ALL those criteria to be met before it could be lawfully executed.

I believe we haven’t checked all the boxes yet.

  • So I wonder how many of these angry voters were Republicans.

Because it’s clear that absolutely nothing will change while R voters continue to cheer Trump on.

    BUT ALSO:

I love that they quoted this bit. Of course this motherfucker is stupid enough to say AI can replace CDC jobs; he doesn’t even know the meaning of the words he’s using. Though duplicitous is a great word for Republicans to learn, since it describes every last fucking one.

McCormick — who recently made headlines when he suggested that children taking part in school lunch programs “sponge off the government” — argued that “a lot of the work” done by probationary employees at the CDC “is duplicitous with AI.”

    • AI written

    • Scary puff piece sucking up to the new dictator in town, or

    • Freshman high school “persuasive paper” assignment.

Not sure which, but it’s at least one of those.

Of course, these interpretations can be very funny. Yet they risk trivialising the dynamics of an intimate partnership under intense public scrutiny. They also obscure the reality that Melania has consistently defended and supported her husband’s policies and public stances; evidence that she does indeed have agency in their relationship.

Ah yes, because what someone says publicly can never be coerced or lack authenticity.

Some interpret reports of her ironclad prenuptial agreements and carefully staged public appearances as acts of agency. These people argue that Melania is showcasing her ability to navigate a high-stakes marriage for personal benefit. But by focusing solely on curated moments of perceived discomfort, the internet perpetuates a selective narrative that erases Melania’s active participation in Trump’s political life.

No really, she loves and supports him. Trust me bro.

  • As someone in my 50s let me just tell you this - if you are over 40 and live in the US, you ain’t seeing normalcy in our government again in your lifetime. Mark my words. And if you are under 40, you might, but it’s gonna be a rough ride for awhile.

So if Democrats need to use this upcoming lengthy period of upheaval to come out of the other side with a party actually interested in resisting the fascists and the oligarchs, that can be the sliver lining to the decades of struggle that have now begun.
