I don’t think this is it. I think that removing the AP and leaving Newsmax/Fox calls into question the legitimacy of their reporting. They want to ride the coattails of AP its reputable reporting. Standing shoulder to shoulder with AP reports lends credence to Newsmax/Fox. If the reputable reporters are gone and only Newsmax and Fox are left, people will start questioning if only unreputable reporters are allow there.

In fairness, its only been 30 days since the inauguration, and even though trumps/Musk power grab are batshit insane, many cases illegal, and many unconstitutional, to the average citizen their life hasn’t changed yet. Unless people seek out news and think critically about its implications, they see the lights still come on, there’s still food at the grocery store, gas at the gas pump, and their kids seem the same. They simply aren’t engaged.
Unfortunately by the time these folks finally notice something’s wrong, many MANY things will be already set in motion with massive future short term and long term consequences.

Lots of reasons. Generally its not just corn but soybeans too. Essentially the USA has optimized its supply chain for producing massive amounts of corn and soybeans and bringing them to market. The subsidy is to ensure that USA capacity to produce enough food for its populace irrespective of geopolitics or world economies. We never want to be in a position where we aren’t ramped up to feed our population entirely. If you overproduce, you can always get rid of the excess. If you underproduce, at least a portion of your population goes hungry. That cannot be allowed to happen. The ancillary benefits are things like USAID that use the overproduction as expressions of Soft Power around the world in the form of nutritional aid.
Mr. Farmer, when trump talks about finding fraud in government, he’s referring to USAID paying you for your farm products. You are the waste he is referring to.
Their dyed-in-the-wool audiences no, but those are already captured people. Newsmax/Fox want folks that don’t watch them to assume they are legitimate reporters. Being mentioned in the same breath as AP an Reuters does that.
